Charter Boat Captains around the globe are the backbone to our business and we never take that for granted. Due to the overwhelming success and satisfaction on our newsletter and Captain- and Mate-sponsored programs, we are gearing up to increase the number of programs as well as reward solid hard work. We are making a real effort to reach more of you.
We took our mission on the road to the I-Cast show in Orlando (which is a trade show open only to our trade, including every major tackle and apparel company). We shared our monthly newsletter to at least 20 high-profile companies and explained the market it reaches as well as discussed the importance of the Worldwide Charter Fleets to this industry. The response we received was so positive! These companies recognize the importance of who you are and they want their products in your hands, and we want to reward Gray Taxidermy Captains and mates for their efforts.
It’s already been two years since our very first newsletter went out... it’s time to grow! The Gray Taxidermy newsletter will in the future be expanding in size, content and recognition to OUR guys! Look for it soon!
Tip of the Month
Christmas is 90 days out! Remember to let your customer know, the trophy caught today, will be delivered in time for Christmas! Christmas sales start in September.
Remember this to help with the excitement you create for your customer, it’s a great tool to use to boost your sales.
Just so you know our pledge to you is the same as last year, orders that are paid in full within 30 days of Christmas will be delivered to your customers in time for Christmas!
The "Captain of the Month" is Robert Hudson
We have been in business 50 years now! We love ALL of our Captains, but it’s always nice when we get a captain that has been with us almost as long!
Captain Robert Hudson has been doing business with Gray Taxidermy since the late 1970’s. Over all those years, he has mounted more game fish than anyone else in Kona. I think it’s safe to say, Captain Robert knows a thing or two about being a Charter Boat Captain… “I started with Sandy at Gray Taxidermy back in the 70’s. I have been a charter boat Captain 37 years… my wife is a charter boat Captain, she (Cindy) is the mother of a charter boat Captain and the daughter of a charter boat Captain… we eat, live and breathe charter boats and charter fishing.”
Captain Robert along with his family is Located in Kona, Hawaii, where according to Capt. Robert, “you can catch a grander and do it before 10 a.m.”
In our business, we deal with many Captains that deserve the title of “Legend.” (A captain with proven success and endurance over a long period of time.) It is a privilege to say, “Congratulations Captain Hudson, you ARE a Legend in this great industry and we truly appreciate your support and loyalty over the years”!
The "Mate of the Month" is Quinton Shedd!
Quinton is actually new to the industry! With the support of his family, Quinton recently moved from Georgia to Panama City, Florida, to pursue his dream of working in the fishing industry. “All my life I have wanted to work on a boat.”
To listen to Quinton talk about fishing or boats, you’d swear he’d been around the docks his whole life. “It’s everything I’ve ever wanted to do.” His goals are to fish as a deckhand learning as much as possible, gaining local knowledge from the very best, and eventually pursuing his license and a boat of his own.
“The first thing I do when I’m done cleaning the boat is put the brochures out for conversation. Then, when they are looking at it, I tell them about the mounts. I talk to everyone. You start the beginning of the trip with it.” Quinton knows that in order for his customers to have a good time, he has to keep them engaged and excited.

Checking on the Panhandle
Hurricanes, Oil Spills…. The Florida Panhandle has definitely had its share of hard times. The Gray Team took a ride up the west coast of Florida into the Panhandle and Alabama to check on our friends in the area, we were not sure what to expect. What we found was inspirational!
It was exciting to see each and every boat running hard. Each day the boats were booked and returning to the docks with their limits of red snapper, grouper, plus a mix of wahoo, cobia, king fish and sharks! There were plenty of people on vacation excited to experience the awesome fishery in the Gulf. During our tour of the area, we continuously watched happy customers returning from their charter eagerly waiting to stand beside their catch and take photos. Most of them were families with children who just caught their first fish or regulars who landed their first wahoo or cobia. This is your opportunity to greatly increase your business’s revenue just by offering your customer a mount of their catch.
What better way for your customer to remember their experience on your boat then with a trophy that will last a lifetime? And, what better way to increase your profits without any additional capital costs or commitments?

In many places we do business, things are slowing down. Kids are back to school, the rainy season is happening in Central America, boats are heading to the yard and many of you are thinking of a tree stand or your favorite blind.
