Captain of the Month – Captain Bubba Carter Los Sueños, Costa Rica “Tijereta”
The lucky pull of all orders turned in last month was for a customer from Texas that landed a 112” Sailfish. The Captain on the order was none-other than legendary Captain Bubba Carter from Los Sueños, Costa Rica.
Captain Bubba Carter is originally from Hilton Head, South Carolina. He has been Charter Fishing for 45 years now and has caught over 21,000 Billfish and doesn’t seem to be slowing down in the least bit! "
I first went offshore with my dad when I was six. I was 13 when I started working for my dad during the summers when I was out of school. At 15, I went to work for the legendary Buddy Hester in Hilton Head, South Carolina. Two days after my 18th birthday I got my captain’s license. At 22 I bought a 36-foot Rybovich and started fishing Florida, the Carolinas and the Bahamas. I just kept going farther south. I have now been in Costa Rica for 15 years.”
“Gray Taxidermy is the ONLY taxidermy I use.
Thank-you Gray Taxidermy”! Capt. Bubba has fished in many locations around the world such as: The Dominican Republic, Panama, CoCos Island, St. Thomas, Venezuela, all along the Central East Coast of the United States, Australia, and now Costa Rica.
Captain Bubba has also achieved many awards, recognitions and nominations. He has been featured in several sport magazines, fished in hundreds of tournaments, and has appeared on ESPN as well as listed in SaltWater Sportsman, 50 Top Charter Captains.

Species of the Month – Bonito
80 Different species of fish were turned in last month. The species pulled was the Bonito. What a great pull for this month! Not only do these trophy mounts stand on their own for unique markings and a great time on with water with a memorable fight, the Bonito depending on the size can also be used as bait fish for bigger trophies to get a spectacular wall scene for your customers.
Costa DelMar Sunglasses is once again looking after the crew with a pair of Tuna Alley sunglasses awarded to the mate from the lucky order pulled. This month, we would like to congratulate David Jackson from “Marlin my Darlin” in South Florida.

Some interesting info on the Bonito
Bonito are schooling fish of the tuna and mackerel family, Scombridae. They are often confused with False Albacore which look very similar, but it seems to be a matter of who you ask. Bonitos are swift, predacious fishes found worldwide. Their backs are greenish blue with a variety of stripes that fade down to silvery bellies and grow to a length of about 30 inches.
Like tunas, they are streamlined, with a narrow tail base, a forked tail, and a row of small finlets behind the dorsal and anal fins. There are several types of Bonito, Common Bonito, Northern Bonito, Oceanic Bonito and Atlantic Bonito.
Commonly they live about 9 years and grow to 2 feet, range of weight from 4 – 5 pounds, occasionally they reach 11 – 12 pounds, and on rare instances can be found up to 20 pounds.
Mate of the Month – Captain Gary Womer
Congratulations Captain Gary Womer from Robertsdale, Alabama on “Out Of The Rip.” He is this month’s Mate of the Month. The lucky order pulled was for a 30” Redfish from the Gulf of Mexico for a customer from Florida! Niiiice mount Captain Gary!!
"I have fished in Florida and most of the Atlantic for more than 20 years. I must say I have had a great time doing so! Recently, I have relocated to the Gulf and there I am continuing my passion for charter fishing. Getting into the Charter Fishing business has truly been the best decision I have ever made, I wouldn't change a thing"!

Fishing is HOT in Cabo- The Region of the Month is Cabo San Lucas The Captain that wins 2 Okuma Reels from Hopkins Carter Marine Supply and Fishing Tackle is Captain Luis Abaroa from “Go Deep”! Congratulations!!!
At the tip of Baja California Sur you will find the dual destination of Los Cabos. Wondering why they call it a dual destination? Part of the fun comes with exploring the region’s two dramatically distinct personas. Tranquil San Jose del Cabo retains the look and vibe of an authentic Mexican town.
Cobblestone streets, intimate restaurants and boutiques radiate from the central main square and mission church. Rambunctious Cabo San Lucas, on the other end of the highway (called the Corridor), is party central with funky bars and the slick Luxury Avenue Mall centered around the marina. This insane land mass and its mountainous landscape pierce the Pacific Ocean on one side and the Sea of Cortez on the other.
Cabo San Lucas which is at the tip of Baha, offers great fishing as you have access to both bodies of water at your fingertips. It’s a daily decision…. should I go left or right at the world famous Cabo Arch. With over 400 charter boats to choose from, the options in Cabo are endless. You can get on a Panga for a couple hundred dollars a day or rent a mega yacht to a private island and everything in between. Access to Cabo is super easy, safe and the entire area in geared toward fishermen and traveling tourists. Many fleet owners offer fishing packages which include accommodations making it easy to experience what Cabo has to offer. From first-class tournaments to a wide range of fish types, Cabo has it all.

Cabo is known for its amazing Striped Marlin fisheries and also has world-class Yellowfin Tuna fishing with a 300 lb class fish available at certain times of the year. An angler can catch all types of Marlin, Tuna, Roosters, Wahoo and Dorado to a wide range of inshore species from Snapper and Grouper to high flying Makos and an occasional Swordfish on top! Gray Taxidermy is approaching 30 years in Cabo and we are extremely proud to be a part of such a legendary fishing Mecca. Stop by and see the new office/showroom located on the main dock in Cabo and meet the team!
